Harrogate Borough Council are not fully aware of the true costs of charging people for green waste removal.
I would like to raise the Cauz of Harrogate Borough Council raising the cost of garden waste removal in 2017. Initially they offered this as part of a free service which was paid for by our council tax and people were given free collection bins. After a year or so they introduced a £39 per bin which was currently 19.52 per cent higher than the current average.
I do not understand why they initially let people have the service for free and surely there was a huge upfront cost for the collection bins and delivery / collection. Why did they not conduct a survey to find out if people were willing to sign up for the service then deal with each requirement individually. I’d also like to know the cost of having to collect the surplus bins and also the initial cost of them in the first place not to mention the waste of those that were given back.
I would like to lobby the council for an explanation as to why they have given us the bin but now want them back.
Also, this discourages people from having a garden and green space with all the ecological benefits this brings.
If you agree and would like to join my Cauz your comments will be gathered and sent to:
